The total forest area of the district is 3463 Sq. Kms. Which is the 37.10% of total geographical area. Out of this forest area of the district, in Shahpur 20.62%, Palaghar 14.09%,Jawhar 9.99%, Wada 10.08%, Murbad 6.38%. and Dahanu 12.79% and in vasai 6.56%. Total 80.51% forest area spread in these seven talukas only. The main forest products of the district are Sag, Ain, Hirda, Timber wood which is mostly used in construction purpose.

Gorakhgad is a small fort at Dehari village near Murbad. Named after Saint Goraknath, the fort is at a height of 2150 ft above sea level. From Mumbai, one can reach Murbad via Kalyan, and from Pune go via Karjat. Buses and jeeps are available to the base village Dehri. Two spectacular pinnacles can be seen from Dehari – the smaller one is Machchindragad and the bigger one Gorakhgad. The trek up to the caves on top is not difficult though climbing the pinnacle calls for rock climbing. The caves that are carved out on one side of the pinnacle can accommodate around 25 people. Bhimashankar Hill

There are Buddha style carvings of Amba-Ambika, Bhootling and Bhimashankar in the hills of Manmaad near Bhimashankar at a height of 1034 metres. A big bell in Hemadpanthi structure built by Nana Phadanavis is a feature of Bhimashankar. Places that can be visited in are Hanuman Lake, Gupt Bhimashankar, Origin of River Bhima, Nag Phani, Bombay Point, Sakshi Vinayak and a lot more. Bhimashankar is a conserve red forest area and wildlife sanctuary where a variety of birds, animals, flowers, plants can be seen. A rare animal "Shekru" can be found in deep woods. Bhimashankar is worth visiting for jungle lovers and trekkers as well as for pilgrims. This temple is very famous in Pune and people from all around the world come to visit this temple. 

Textile Park in Murbad

A 100 acres of land was being developed for textile park in Murbad. Jyoti Hindurao, Chief of the Priyajan Women's Self Help Group said a 100 acre land in Murbad was being developed into a textile park to provide employment to thousands of women from the region.
